Eyes, Ears, Nose, Tongue and...

The uber intelligent among you have now figured out that this post is about the five senses. Thunderous applause for all ye!

If you think about it, on any given day, we taste a variety of food and drink, see a glorious sunrise and the trash can in our cubes, experience smells that range from vehicle exhaust fumes to your favorite cologne and hear the cacophony of your boss's ramblings and the most relaxing classical music ever. But, how often does one experience the sense of touch? Especially, when it comes to people and more specifically, when it comes to the opposite sex? You see them (and your bpm shoots through the roof), smell their fragrance and hear the melody in their voice.

Single or married, player or saint, I tend to think that the sense of touch is perhaps the least appreciated and experienced amongst all. Perhaps that's why we all crave it...?

Thoughts?

One, two, buckle my shoe...

Have you ever thought of the number of numbers you are associated with? I conservatively estimate it to be easily around 50.

The date of your birth ( & time of your birth)
Your house # / apartment #
Your SSN
Passport #, VISA #
Checking a/c #, Investment account #, savings a/c #, etc etc
Credit card #s
The licsense plate on your car (plus the vehicle identification #)
Driver's License #
Insurance #s - health and dental and vehicle

Work Badge / ID #
Phone #s - home, work, cell.
Fax #
Cube #
Service Tag # on your computer
All your airline frequent flier, hotel frequent guest numbers

And so on and so FOURTH. (Alright, no smart alecky comments about the correct usage here please. It's intentional. GEDIT?? :P)

Boggling, isn't it? Numbers surround us, they seem to define our existence, to solidify our reality (to the world).
At the end of the day, you're just a number!

(Oh, and not to mention the plethora of USER ids and passwords we own. That's another can of worms…)

And then...

...there were none.

Move it...

Isn't the human body a mind boggling system? Balance, symmetry, control, the works - nature at it's best! But it's prone to errors as well.

The pain and suffering to oneself and to one's near and dear ones when afflicted with an injury or a disease is
distressing - be it cancer, AIDS or Alzheimer's (not to mention physical or mental handicaps). it would be a moot point to compare the relative agonies of these conditions. Thoughts and prayers for those afflicted.

However, the one I dread the most is paralysis. The notion of not being able to move a muscle or speak a word sends chills down my spine. One of my idle Google searches brought me to a foundation that is performing research on treatment and cure for paralysis :

http://www.miamiproject.miami.edu/

Quoting from this site:

"Every day the scientists at The Miami Project are finding new insights and discoveries as they uncover the mysteries of how the central nervous system works. The research that they are doing is bringing us closer to the day that they will be able to conduct human clinical trials to find a cure.

Right now, The Miami Project spends more than $45,000 a day on research programs with 86 cents out of every dollar raised going directly towards research. Scientific research is difficult and expensive. Our investigations are particularly demanding: cutting-edge technology is costly; highly trained minds need support. "

End quote.

I urge you to donate generously (you can donate online using your CC) at:

Hopefully, together, we will all be able to find a cure for paralysis and alleviate the pain and suffering of millions of people around the world. Amen.
