The other day, a friend of mine made a drastic statement - 'North Indians have a poor-er sense of humor than South Indians." Without getting into the intricacies of the Northie/Southie debate, here's my take on SOH.
To me, it's a pointless statement. Someone's sense of humor could be totally in sync with yours or a tad unconventional or just plain boring and not provoke a chucke from you. But, is it fair to say that X's sense of humor is 'better' than Y's sense of humor?
There are no levels in sense of humor. One can't objectively say that X's is better than Y's, just because it is a very subjective issue. It's akin to saying, "Blue is a better color than red." Huh? Wha..? Similarly, one's sense of humor could fall anywhere in a broad spectrum from your perspective - a spectrum in which no particular color is 'better' than the rest.

and also how could u generalise based on a few ppl that you see?
anyway this whole northie-southie thing is highly annoying...isnt it enough to be indian...why start differentiating there twoo?
But then red IS better than blue is'n it!I mean, most of my wardrobe is red..
On a serious note..it is subjective..but then, r'nt most things???

Cloud 9 - Yep, Indians are Indians. We just come in different flavors. When will we learn to accept that? I see this divisive notion more so in folks who have never lived in more than one place all their life. Sthing about horizons needing broadened eh..?

very well put...about it being something to do with not having moved out of one place all your life...
I know north indian to whom all south indians are lungi-wearing madrasis...they have no clue that south india has more than one language!
and I know south indians who see all north indians are brash punjabis who beat up each other.
*sigh*
I guess he held a contest and the northies and southies got points for who told the funnier jokes.
Red is better than blue though
Doesn't every culture come in different flavors?
